Ukrainian pork is allowed in Russia again.
- 08.10.2010
The Russian agricultural supervision service adopted a decision of 7 October banning the import to Russia of the products from four Ukrainian facilities: «Baltsky dairy processing plant of products for children», and also from Shepetovka, Trostyanets and Vatutinsky meat processing plants. This information was placed at the website of the authority. Now Russia prohibited the import of products from 12 out of 15 meat processing enterprises of Ukraine, which were earlier allowed to export their goods to the country. As for dairy processing plants import of products is allowed for 10 out of 14 enterprises. The ban on the import of products from Trostyanets and Vatutinsky meat processing plants becomes effective from 17 October, from the other two enterprises — from the 16th. Press releases of the Russian agricultural supervision service call these bans temporary. However, they do not indicate the date of their termination. The Russian authority explains its decision by the fact that during the inspections at the meat processing plants inspectors found violations of the Russian veterinary and sanitary requirements. It should be mentioned that supervisory bodies of Russia and Ukraine regularly ban supplies of meat from the neighboring countries. According to the data of the State Customs Service of Ukraine, meat import to the country fell by 17 percent over 9 Months 2010 in comparison with the respective period last year, whereas export rose by 57 percent. At the same time one of the major markets for Ukrainian meat is in fact Russia.
