Ukraine closed the frontier for meat suppliers from Europe.

Owing to the detection in this meat of hazardous for human health infections it was banned to import to the country the products from Belgium, Poland and Germany. Ukraine introduced a temporary ban on the import of meat material, produced by a number of European companies. The reason for taking these measures was the availability in their products of hazardous for human health infections. This information was announced by the State committee for veterinary medicine. During laboratory research it was found out that the animal materials — frozen chicken meat of mechanical boning with the weight of 19 thousand kg and 20,2 thousand kg, as well as in the frozen swine tanks — 8,4 thousand kg, supplied by German, Belgian and Polish companies, contained the bacteria of colon bacilli, mesophilic aerobic and optionally anaerobic microorganisms that exceeded the acceptable rates. In particular, the issue was in the ban of importing meat materials for companies «Kipco — Damaco» (Belgium), «Zaklady Miesne Konskowola» (Poland), «Trinity Gmb» (Germany).

The Ministry of Economical Development and Trade of Ukraine applied to the Cabinet Council with the offer to include lard and pork into the list of products, the import of which should be subject to licensing in 2011. The corresponding resolution was placed at the web-site of the Ministry of Economical Development and Trade of Ukraine for discussion.
