  • The ban on the import of meat products that was not inspected by the Ukrainian specialists was canceled in Ukraine.14.01.2010

In Ukraine, today, the 14th of January, ban on the import of meat products produced by the enterprises that were not inspected by the specialists of the Committee for veterinary medicine of Ukraine was to become effective. New requirements were to apply to all of the producers, including those, having a «euro number», i.e. a licence, allowing to produce and supply products to the EU countries, reports

«Kommersant-Ukraine». However, on 28th of December the correspondent order of the Committee for veterinary medicine was canceled, according to the information provided to the periodical by the press service of the authority. Formally the reasons for this decision are not commented either by the Ministry of Agricultural Policy of Ukraine or by the Committee for veterinary medicine, but the source of the periodical at the Ministry of Agricultural Policy of Ukraine noted that the order had been cancelled as «it had been beyond the legal framework», provided by the WTO requirements. This information was confirmed at the representative office of the European Commission ion Ukraine. According to the press secretary of the representative office David Stulik, the negotiations regarding the cancellation of the quotas were within the Committee of the WTO for sanitary and phyto-sanitary rules, and they included the participants from the EU, USA, Canada, Norway and other WTO member countries. «The major argument of the commercial partners of Ukraine was the fact that the introduction of its new requirements to the enterprises would lead to the reduction of supplies»,- reported D. Stulik. He added that the countries could use the mechanism of settling commercial; disputes, provided by the WTO regulations, which could have led to the commercial sanctions against Ukraine — in particular, increase of import duties in the WTO countries for some Ukrainian goods.
